Former MedStar Health EVP Joins Posse D.C. Board
Eric Wagner describes first learning about Posse and its unique approach as an “aha” moment.
“I have had an interest for a long time in how to best help students attend and succeed in college,” says Eric.
A retired executive vice president of insurance at MedStar Health, Eric views faculty mentoring and the support of a cohort of similar motivated students as making a huge difference in student outcomes.
“The proof is in the results of the very high graduation rates for Posse Scholars.”
He learned about Posse from Posse D.C. advisory board member Jim Matthews, whom he describes as a mentor and executive coach. As Eric learned more about the organization’s approach to supporting young leaders through college, he became increasingly interested in getting involved.
“I had mentors who pushed me to reach my potential,” says Eric. “Sometimes you need that support, you need a push. Posse offers both of those things.”
Participating as a volunteer for the Dynamic Assessment Process (DAP)—Posse’s unique selection method—and attending the Award Ceremony celebrating the newest class of Scholars solidified Eric’s commitment to the program.
“Seeing the pool of candidates for the scholarship in person is very impressive,” he says. “You look back and think, ‘At 17, I was not this ambitious nor was I a leader to this magnitude.’”
When Eric is not helping Posse D.C. facilitate DAP, attending Posse fundraisers, or engaging with admissions counselors at Awards Ceremony, he spends time with another love of his: music. Eric plays the electric bass, and he and his wife can often be found at the theater.
