Illinois Wesleyan Scholar to Study Abroad in London

Spring 2021 | New Orleans

Nyja White is a sophomore Posse Scholar at Illinois Wesleyan University pursuing a major in theatre arts and minor in theatre dance. Nyja was recently selected to study abroad in London as part of the IWU London Program.

While the travel parameters of the program are still to be determined due to the pandemic, Nyia says she is excited about the opportunity. She will earn four general education required credits including courses in history and global diversity taught by both IWU and British faculty. In addition to immersing herself in the culture of a new country, Nyja also plans to complete a credit-bearing internship and participate in an excursion to Normandy. She is proud to have been chosen for the program and hopeful that it will be a life-changing experience.

She says the Posse Program prepared her to leap straight into leadership in the college community.

Even after spending half of her freshman year studying remotely, Nyja has seized every opportunity to get involved and excel on campus. She says the Posse Program prepared her to leap straight into leadership in the college community.

“Posse provides me with so many opportunities,” Nyia says, noting that the program has many vocal supporters on campus, especially among the faculty. “Many of my teachers love my academic work as a student, but they love me even more when they find out I’m a Posse Scholar.”

In addition to being on the Dean’s List, Nyja is now the president of the Black Student Union and a recipient of the Illinois Wesleyan Woman’s Summer Scholarship. She was also featured on the cover of IWU’s Winter Magazine.
