Houston Career Partners Offer Scholars Inside Look at Corporate Life
On January 7, Posse Houston Scholars participated in an immersive career experience, Companies in Action, hosted by Career Partner Crown Castle. Five Scholars from Bryn Mawr College, Oberlin College, Texas A&M University, and the University of Virginia spent the day gaining firsthand insight into the company’s work, culture, and early-career pathways.
Designed to provide a behind-the-scenes look at corporate life, the experience highlighted how Crown Castle supports connectivity nationwide and how collaboration across teams drives that mission forward. Through presentations, guided discussions, and a facility tour, Scholars explored what a day in a corporate environment can look and feel like.
A central highlight was a conversation with early-career professionals in Crown Castle’s Business Immersion Program. Jane Hershman, Manager of Talent Programs, emphasized the value of rotational programs in launching careers.
“Rotational programs offer a unique blend of exposure, development, and support,” she explained. “They allow early-career professionals to build both broad and deep knowledge of a company while gaining experience across different functions, teams, and leadership styles.”
She also underscored the importance of community within these programs.
“Participants move through the experience as a cohort, which provides built-in peer support alongside program leadership—helping ensure a strong and successful transition from campus to career.”
For Adrianna Carrier, an Oberlin Scholar, the scale and coordination behind the company’s work stood out.
“The most meaningful takeaway was learning how much collaboration and long-term planning goes into maintaining communications infrastructure that most of us use every day without thinking about it,” she said. “It was eye-opening to see how many different teams contribute to that mission behind the scenes.”
For Johnathan, a Texas A&M Scholar, the breadth of opportunity was especially meaningful.
“My biggest takeaway is how much opportunity exists for people of all majors,” he said. “We saw how many different roles there are within the company—and how each requires a different set of skills.”
Touring the facility brought those insights to life.
“Experiencing the space made it feel real,” Johnathan added. “It helped me picture what working in a corporate environment looks like day to day and gave me a new sense of direction and excitement for my career.”
For Crown Castle, hosting Companies in Action reflects a broader commitment to developing future leaders.
“We are committed to supporting emerging talent,” Jane said. “This experience allows us to connect with students we might not otherwise meet, broaden their understanding of career possibilities, and help build confidence in professional settings.”
She added that beyond understanding the business, her hope was that Scholars left knowing their skills and interests have a place in organizations like Crown Castle—and that they would be supported not just as professionals, but as people.
We are grateful to Crown Castle for investing in our Scholars through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences that help prepare the next generation of leaders.
