GW Scholar Interns with Morgan Stanley, Leads on Campus

Fall 2021 | Atlanta

This summer Desi Warren II, a junior studying international affairs at The George Washington University (GW), interned at Morgan Stanley as a participant in the company’s Public Finance Summer Analyst Program. The 10-week program provides undergraduates the opportunity to develop analytical, quantitative and interpersonal skills, offering a chance for interns to explore multiple product areas. Summer analysts are invited to network with peers, mentors and managers at special events including speaker series, learning lunches, community service projects and teambuilding sessions.

Desi worked in the Fixed Income Division in Morgan Stanley’s San Francisco office. He found the opportunity through his own personal network, and through connections with GW alumni who have interned at other major investment banks.

“I was excited to work in a niche field of investment banking that incorporates the financial markets and politics.”

“I was excited to work with an amazing group of people, and to work in a niche field of investment banking that incorporates the financial markets and politics,” Desi says. “This summer has provided an amazing opportunity to learn from professionals who have been in the financial services industry for many years, working on real and engaging projects.”

The previous spring semester, Desi worked in the office of U.S. Representative James Clyburn of South Carolina as a congressional intern, an experience that proved especially relevant to the political component of his work at Morgan Stanley.

On campus, Desi is an engaged and engaging member of the community who serves in several student organizations, including the Black Heritage Celebration (BHC). As committee co-chair, Desi supports BHC’s exploration of values and traditions of African-American, Caribbean, African and Afro-Latino cultures throughout the year. BHC programs include student culture shows, performers, distinguished guest lectures, seminars and educational events.

As the vice chair of GW’s Diversity and Inclusion Assembly, Desi also works closely with the university’s Office for Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement to advocate on behalf of multicultural student groups.

“Throughout my journey at GW, Posse has played an important role in my career development,” Desi says. “Posse has provided me with unparalleled access to resources such as workshops, conferences and mentorship at every level.”
