First D.C. Posse Graduates from Pepperdine University

On April 25, 2014, Posse D.C. celebrated its first cohort of Scholars to graduate from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. The full Pepperdine Posse community, including Pepperdine University President Andrew K. Benton, attended a special ceremony to recognize the impressive accomplishments of the graduates.

Members of this Posse brought their leadership abilities to many campus organizations, including student government, residential life, the radio station and the Multicultural Theater Project.

“I asked myself, ‘What have these young people done for Pepperdine?’” said Jeff Banks, a Posse mentor, visiting professor of humanities and teacher education executive in residence. “Well, you have taken on nearly every leadership position on campus. You are no longer kids, but the essence of leadership. You have capped off your journey with maturity and I am very proud.”

With internship and career experience from prestigious organizations and companies including The White House, Parliament, the U.S. Congress, Viacom, Comedy Central, Discovery Communications, Kirkland & Ellis, and Deloitte, the graduating Scholars are well prepared to be leaders in the workforce.

These new graduates will pursue careers in consulting, education, entertainment, divinity and social justice. Among them is Sarah Houston, who won a Fulbright award to teach English to university-age students in Turkey.

“The world is a hard place and people that have influence, empathy, and knowledge like this Posse will make a difference,” said Sue Houston, Sarah’s mother.
