F&M Scholar Tackles Dual Major, Campus Diversity

Spring 2018 | Miami

As her freshman year comes to a close, Posse Scholar Linned “Lulu” Gomez has big plans for the rest of her college experience at Franklin & Marshall.

Currently dual majoring in scientific & philosophical studies of the mind and women, gender & sexuality studies, Lulu is also minoring in environmental studies. She has chosen to focus her studies on her passion for human and environmental rights.

This summer she will be working for the sustainability department at Franklin & Marshall as a volunteer assistant. Some of Lulu’s responsibilities will include tending to the organic garden, beekeeping, and organizing information about the plant life on campus.

Currently working in the Bilingual Research Lab as a volunteer research assistant, Lulu is helping to analyze data on code-switching—switching from one language to another—that occurs in bilingual subjects during memory recall.

In addition, Lulu is active on the executive board of the women’s rugby club team and is a member of several clubs including S.I.S.T.E.R.S, Mi Gente Latina, and S.A.G.A. As a committed advocate for diversity, Lulu facilitates meetings for Franklin & Marshall students on how to improve inclusivity and equity on campus.

Lulu hopes to pursue a career in academia after college but is also considering attending law school to become a social justice or environmental lawyer. When asked about her first year, Lulu says, “I feel as though The Posse Foundation, my Posse, and my mentor have all contributed to my absolutely wonderful experience at Franklin & Marshall so far.”
