DePauw Scholar Leads as Business Entrepreneur, Pursues Filmmaking

Spring 2021 | New York

DePauw University Posse Scholar Lauren Lillis has introduced OrganizeU! to her fellow classmates this past year, a business she founded to help peers focus on organization skills and goals throughout the academic year. A current junior, Lauren is pursuing a degree in communications with minors in sociology and film studies.

The idea was born when Lauren realized that her own semesters always consisted of many competing priorities. Active in her undergraduate community, Lauren serves as president, PR lead and academic chair of sorority Omega Phi Beta, vice president of programming and operations for DePauw Student Government, vice president and PR chair of student organization Feminista!, and Pose campus intern.

This packed agenda plus rigorous coursework led Lauren to design her own customized planner and eventually was the start of OrganizeU! Her business aim is now to share her passion for organization with those around her, to help others stay focused during busy times. It’s a need that has only become more pronounced now that in-person communication between professors and students has grown fragmented during the pandemic.

She hopes to someday carry her entrepreneurial skills into the nonprofit sector.

In just the first round of promotion, OrganizeU! received 30 orders from Lauren’s peers at DePauw. Her support work has included the creation of Google calendars and physical planners using each student’s syllabus with details on assignments and tasks, reminders on office hours and meetings, and schedules for final papers and exams.

Following the successful launch, Lauren looks forward to her next round of orders and aims to continue OrganizeU! at least until graduation.

After she finishes her studies at DePauw, Lauren plans to pursue a career in documentary film with a focus on social injustice. She hopes to someday carry her entrepreneurial skills into the nonprofit sector, already brainstorming about eventually helming a filmmaking program for children.
