Case Western Scholar Explores Public Policy at Harvard Conference

Summer 2019 | New Orleans

Case Western Reserve Posse Scholar Fatima Rahman attended Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government Public Policy Leadership Conference this past February, spending four days learning about public policy and networking with students and professors.

Fatima, who is majoring in international studies and minoring in social justice, described it as an eye-opening experience.

“I now feel that attending a school like Harvard is achievable,” Fatima says. “I never thought I could go somewhere like that until this conference.”

Invitations to Harvard’s Public Policy Leadership Conference are limited—freshman and sophomore students can apply by submitting essays, a resume, a personal statement and a recommendation. Only 12 percent of applicants are accepted.

Fatima says she made many meaningful connections throughout the event. She hopes they will help open new doors into future post-graduate opportunities.

“I knew I wanted a career in law,” she says, “but now I see how a master’s in public policy can make that happen.”
