Case Western Alum Recognized for Educational Impact

Spring 2024 | New Orleans

Case Western Reserve University alum Zoe Nguyen is making an impact in education as part of the team running the DC chapter of Knowledge Is Power Program, better known as KIPP Public Schools. At KIPP DC, Zoe is an executive assistant, supporting the executive offices and uplifting the school community. Her contributions earned her accolades from the KIPP education network, including the "Team and Family" and "Impact Player in Action" awards. The awards were accompanied by a $1,000 prize.

“It is so fulfilling to be recognized by the community that I have loved supporting over the last two years,” says Zoe.

KIPP DC Public Schools aims to provide “joyful and rigorous learning experiences” to the diverse student population that make up the academic community. Zoe supports the KIPP DC executive team as they manage a 1,000 person staff and provide a rich education to over 7,000 students.

When I witness students winning scholarships in part because of my support, it reminds me of the importance of this work.

Zoe joined the team at KIPP in 2022 after graduating from Case Western with a bachelor’s in psychology and political science. While at Case, Zoe served as the executive president of the class officer collective, where she created high-impact programming for the undergraduate student body and managed a budget of nearly $100,000.

Her experiences in that role prepared her for her responsibilities at KIPP. As the executive assistant, Zoe is tasked with supporting the board of directors and orchestrating large-scale staff events beyond her administrative support of the executive team. Her support directly affects students’ success.

"I am not an educator, but I still impact thousands of students every day," says Zoe. “When I witness students winning scholarships in part because of my support, it reminds me of the importance of this work.”

Since Zoe started in the role, KIPP DC students have secured over $300,000 in college scholarships.
