Carleton Expands Partnership to Recruit Students from Atlanta

Fall 2025 | National

Carleton College has expanded its longstanding partnership with The Posse Foundation to recruit talented public high school students from Atlanta, Georgia—furthering its commitment to access, equity, and leadership in higher education.

Carleton first became a Posse partner college in 2000, joining the national network of institutions dedicated to identifying, recruiting, and supporting exceptional young leaders from public schools. Initially partnering with Posse Chicago before switching to recruit students from Houston, Carleton has since welcomed more than 260 Posse Scholars to campus, with more than 150 Posse graduates now making their mark in the workforce.

Earlier this year, the College expanded its partnership to include Atlanta as a new recruitment city, bringing a fresh wave of scholars who will contribute to the Carleton community’s vibrancy and excellence.

Since joining the Posse network, Carleton’s Scholars have achieved remarkable success. Carleton Posse Scholars hold leadership positions on campus, graduate with honors, win competitive national fellowships, and go on to lead in their fields. These outcomes exemplify the power of the partnership and Carleton’s and Posse’s shared mission to develop leaders who thrive both in college and beyond.

“For 25 years Carleton has been an exemplary partner,” says Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial. “Their decision to double the size of their Posse program by adding Atlanta underscores their deep commitment to developing young leaders from across the country, from every background. We’re proud to work with President Byerly, Dean Livingston and all of the faculty and staff who believe in and invest so much in these young people.”

As Carleton celebrates 25 years of collaboration with The Posse Foundation, the expansion to Atlanta represents both a renewal and an evolution of the College’s enduring mission—to build a community where students from all backgrounds can succeed and lead.
