Alum Helps Secure Donation from Mayor Riordan
Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, a long-time Posse supporter and 2011 Power of 10 honoree, made a $14,000 gift to Posse Los Angeles on the unanimous recommendation of a student committee at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Claremont McKenna College Posse alumnus Elias Rangel, a student in Mayor Riordan’s leadership and ethics course, was a member of the committee.
Each year, Mayor Riordan’s class designates a student committee to select a nonprofit organization to gift Mayor Riordan’s salary to. After multiple rounds of discussions, the committee unanimously selected Posse, as it fulfilled the committee’s goal to select an organization that stresses leadership, community and higher learning.
“Naturally, I advocated for Posse.”
“I was privileged to be one of five students on the committee that researched, met and discussed different nonprofit organizations that were considered,” Elias says. “Naturally, I advocated for Posse. I cannot stress enough the personal rewards Posse has offered me — both from the gratification of giving back, to the potential career advancement opportunities.”
After graduating from Claremont McKenna in 2009 with a degree in economics, Elias began his career in finance and later moved on to become a project manager at Lockton Insurance. In 2014, he was one of two individuals nationwide selected to receive the inaugural Deloitte Consulting MBA Visionary Program and Scholarship, and after graduating from UCLA, he will join Deloitte as a senior consultant under their strategy and operations practice.
As an alumnus, Elias is committed to Posse in a multitude of ways. After serving as a Posse National Alumni Advisory Council representative, he joined the Posse Los Angeles Leadership Council and continues to volunteer and provide crucial support in the Los Angeles alumni community.
