Posse Atlanta Honors Georgia-Pacific at Power of 10

Winter 2015 | Atlanta

Posse Atlanta celebrated its sixth annual Power of 10 in October 2014 at the InterContinental Buckhead. The event honored leading paper and pulp manufacturer Georgia-Pacific, including remarks from the company’s president and CEO, Jim Hannan. Attended by Posse alumni, members of the advisory board and leadership council, corporate partners and supporters, the event raised nearly $200,000.

Georgia-Pacific has been a partner in Posse Atlanta’s success since 2009. The company has supported countless Posse events and many of its employees are dedicated volunteers. In his remarks, Mr. Hannan applauded Posse’s focus on developing diverse leaders to tackle complex challenges.

“This world requires a diverse set of individuals and ways of thinking that can break the proverbial mold,” said Mr. Hannan. “I’m confident that Posse Scholars will play an important part in forming that new mold.”

One such mold-breaker is Boston University Posse alumnus Harvin Vallabhaneni, who reflected on the role that Posse played in his success as a Scholar and thanked guests for their support. Harvin graduated cum laude in May 2014 and is currently a systems integration analyst with Accenture.

“Posse was the one variable that was always on my side,” said Harvin. “What makes this organization special is that it surrounds you with [people who] are willing to go the extra mile to ensure that you succeed. Too many talented students in Atlanta have the odds stacked against them. By being here tonight, you are all helping change the conditions for these students. Your support might be one variable that allows a student to reach their full potential.”

Jim Price, a member of the Posse Atlanta Advisory Board and CEO of ExamWorks, concluded the evening by leading the Posse challenge to successfully raise more than $50,000 in support of the event and Posse Atlanta.
