Lehigh Signs On, UVA Adds Vets

This fall, Lehigh University will recruit its first Posse from the Bay Area, and the University of Virginia (UVA), which already recruits from Houston, will select its first Veterans Posse. Both inaugural classes of Scholars will matriculate on campus in fall 2018.

“We are thrilled to partner with The Posse Foundation in their noble work of extending the opportunity of high-quality education to promising young people in the Bay Area who might not otherwise have that opportunity,” says Lehigh University President John Simon. “This commitment aligns with our continuing efforts to open Lehigh to students of all backgrounds and to create a more culturally diverse, inclusive and welcoming campus. Our community—and our society—can only benefit from expanding opportunity.”

Lehigh University is located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Recognized among the nation's premier research universities, Lehigh offers a rigorous academic community for more than 5,000 undergraduate students and close to 2,000 graduate students.

Lehigh is now the third Posse partner school, alongside the University of Puget Sound and Boston University, to recruit from the Bay Area, which opened its doors in 2015.

UVA’s first Posse came to their campus in Charlottesville in 2014. Those Scholars are set to graduate this spring, having since been joined by three other Posse cohorts from Houston. UVA now stands with Dartmouth College, Vassar College and Wesleyan University in recruiting Scholars who are post-9/11 U.S. veterans. The Posse Veterans Program was launched in 2013.

“We are thrilled to partner with Lehigh University and to expand our relationship with UVA,” says Posse President and Founder Deborah Bial. “John Simon is a tremendous advocate for equity and diversity at Lehigh, and we look forward to working with him and his team. We are equally excited about connecting U.S. veterans to the many incredible opportunities at UVA.”
