Posse Houston Director Kamari Brewer welcomes nominated students to the first interview of the Dynamic Assessment Process.

Posse Houston Selects Class of 2018

Winter 2014 | Houston

In 2013, Posse Houston received more than 800 nominations for 60 merit scholarships from its six partner colleges and universities. This coming fall, the newest class of Houston Scholars will attend Bryn Mawr College, Carleton College, Colby College, Texas A&M University, The University of Texas at Austin and University of Virginia.

“Students were incredibly excited to be a part of this process,” says Posse Houston Director Kamari Brewer. “Posse Houston’s exciting growth has allowed us to recruit 60 Scholars this year, doubling the amount of students from Houston who are able to be a part of the program.”

Nominations were received from more than 95 percent of Houston Independent School District high schools and more than 30 community-based organizations in the Houston area. New Scholars were selected during the four-month Dynamic Assessment Process (DAP), Posse’s unique evaluation method to identify young leaders with great potential for success.

The successful DAP season would not have possible without the myriad volunteers who donated their time to help select Posse Houston’s second cohort of Scholars. Posse Houston is also grateful to Crescent Properties and Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. for their donation of space.

Sixty new Scholars were formally welcomed to the Posse Houston family in January at an Awards Ceremony in downtown Houston. They now begin eight months of Pre-Collegiate Training to prepare them for successful college careers.
