Houston Celebrates First Graduating Posses

This summer, Posse Houston celebrated its first graduating cohorts of Scholars. Posses from Bryn Mawr College, Texas A&M University and The University of Texas at Austin join the greater Posse Alumni Network of more than 4,000.

In 2012, Posse Houston selected its first Scholars and sent them to three of the top colleges and universities in country. Now in its fifth year, Posse Houston has grown to select 70 students in 2017, including 20 STEM Scholars, to attend current partners Bryn Mawr College, Carleton College, Colby College, Texas A&M University, The University of Texas at Austin, the University of Virginia and Wellesley College.

Andrea Gomez, a 2017 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and now one of the first Posse Houston alumni, recognizes the critical role her Posse played for her during her time on campus.

“As a first-generation college student, my Posse has been an incredible support system for me,” says Andrea. “Being a Posse Scholar has taught me that it sometimes takes an entire community to guide a person to meet their full potential in college, to prepare them for the real world.”

Andrea was supported by her Posse network to reach far and wide. As an undergraduate, she had many opportunties for personal and academic development, including taking time away from Texas to study abroad in Vienna.

Andrea will stay connected to the Posse community as Posse National Alumni Advisory Council (PNAAC) representative. As part of her duties, Andrea will serve on the Posse Houston Advisory Board, coordinate networking and professional development opportunities within the alumni community and welcome graduates into the alumni network.
