Golfers practice their swings on the driving range prior to the shotgun start at East Lake Golf Club.

On June 10, Posse Atlanta held its inaugural Golf Outing at East Lake Golf Club, one of the top courses in the country and the oldest club in Atlanta. Despite the rain, over 80 golfers assembled at the historic course for 18 holes of golf, lunch, an evening cocktail reception, and full access to East Lake’s amenities.

“The rain couldn’t stop us,” said Michael B. Marino, chair of the Golf Outing Committee and a member of the Posse Atlanta Advisory Board. “We had a blast out there, and, better yet, we were supporting Posse while doing so. It was a great way to introduce the Posse movement to friends and colleagues.”

The course competition was stiff, with two teams finishing in a tie. A first-place finish was awarded to the Merrill Lynch team based on their performance on the back nine. Blake Anderson, Riccardo Edmonds, Cheryl Lomax and Posse Atlanta Advisory Board member David Mack were each congratulated with a bottle of Hennessey cognac and a TaylorMade Rocketballz driver.

As the sun finally broke through, the early evening cocktail reception began with remarks from Posse Atlanta Director Zenith Houston, Advisory Board Chair Philip M. Pead and Bard College alumnus Brandon LaBord.

“We are grateful to the Posse Atlanta Advisory Board and the Golf Outing Committee for their support in the planning of this event,” said Zenith. “The generosity of our sponsors and the enthusiasm of our golfers speak volumes about the high regard they have for our Scholars and the Posse progam.”

“Posse gave me opportunity—the opportunity for a more enriched life,” said Brandon, a 2013 graduate and current Peace Corps nominee. “Being selected as a Posse Scholar showed me that Posse believed in my potential.”

The Golf Outing would not have been possible without the generous support of the event sponsors. Posse Atlanta thanks these distinguished companies for their support and commitment to Posse’s work.
