HWS Scholar Takes On Hollywood, Studies In England

Winter 2018 | Los Angeles

Will Samayoa, a Hobart and William Smith Colleges (HWS) Posse Scholar, spent last summer as an intern at Freemantle Media North America, known for producing America’s Got Talent, American Idol and The Price is Right.

He shared the experience with two Posse Scholars from Northwestern University. Will and fellow Scholar Ailyn were also nominated by Freemantle Media for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ new Academy Gold program, where they attended weekly panels featuring influential film professionals.

At Academy Gold, Will made a point to ask questions and take on extra responsibilities. His enthusiasm and dedication paid off, with Academy Gold selecting him as the graduation ceremony student speaker.

Will spent fall semester in England at the University of East Anglia, where he worked for the school’s TV station and newspaper.

On campus, Will writes for the HWS office of communications and works for the IT department. He is also part of the HWS Writing Colleagues Program, a peer-mentoring organization.

After winning the HWS First-Year Writing Prize, he is double-majoring in writing and rhetoric, and media and society.
