61 Full-Tuition College Scholarships Awarded to Houston High School Seniors

Winter 2014 | Houston

On January 6, Posse Houston introduced 61 new Scholars at the second annual Awards Ceremony. At the event, hosted by CenterPoint Energy at their downtown Houston headquarters, these Scholars were presented with full-tuition merit scholarships from Bryn Mawr College, Carleton College, Colby College, Texas A&M University, The University of Texas and the University of Virginia.

“The Awards Ceremony is always an amazing evening,” says Posse Houston Director Kamari Brewer. “The students and their families get to reflect on the path that brought them here, and celebrate a future that looks incredibly bright.”

Scholars and their families were joined in celebration by college and university representatives, community leaders and members of the Posse Houston Advisory Board. CenterPoint Senior Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development James Dumler delivered opening remarks, welcoming guests before Darius Pitre, a first-year Scholar at Texas A&M, addressed the new Scholars.

“My Posse is my family of supporters,” said Darius. “Your Posse will be by your side to make sure you become the leader we know you can become.”

These 61 Scholars will begin eight months of Pre-Collegiate Training as they prepare to matriculate in fall 2014. They will arrive at college ready to support each other, flourish in the classroom, and become leaders in the campus community.
