61 Atlanta High School Students Awarded $10 Million in Posse Scholarships

Spring 2015 | Atlanta

Posse Atlanta’s eighth annual Awards Ceremony at the historic Fox Theatre welcomed 61 new Scholars to the organization. Among these additions to the Posse community are presidents and founders of clubs, athletes, musicians, top academic performers and national award winners. Scholars and their families, advisory board members, and supporters from the Atlanta community gathered to celebrate the 2015 Posse Scholarship recipients.

New Scholars, who represent 41 high schools from across the metropolitan area, won leadership scholarships worth more than $10 million from Posse partners Bard College, Boston University, Brandeis University, The College of Wooster, Syracuse University and Texas A&M University.

“When I found out that I won the Posse Scholarship, it didn't hit me until I saw my mother’s face,” says Carmen Lopez-Landavere, who will attend Brandeis University this fall. “I realized then that with this weight lifted off my shoulders, I can pave a road for the rest of my family.”

Atlanta City Council President Ceasar Mitchell delivered remarks to the new scholarship recipients who join a robust network of Scholars and alumni from Atlanta. Since 2007, Posse Atlanta has selected more than 360 Scholars who have collectively won $51 million in scholarships from Posse’s partner colleges and universities.

New Scholars are currently engaged in the Pre-Collegiate Training Program, bonding as Posses, and preparing to take their campuses by storm this fall.
