10th Posse Chapter Opens in San Francisco Bay Area
In April, Posse commemorated the launch of its 10th chapter, Posse Bay Area, with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by Posse Board Chair Jeff Ubben. Led by Director Leroy Foster, a Vanderbilt University Posse alumnus, the chapter is recruiting Scholars for inaugural partner University of Puget Sound.
The University of Puget Sound, located in Tacoma, Washington, is a nationally recognized liberal arts institution. The approximately 2,600 students enrolled each year have access to more than 50 academic degree fields and more than 100 student-run organizations on campus.
“We are honored to be named a Posse college and further extend our commitment to making college affordable for academically talented students from diverse backgrounds,” University of Puget Sound President Ronald R. Thomas says. “The Posse program is unique in its approach to providing the training and support that helps students realize their academic and leadership potential, and make substantial contributions to the campus communities that they transform over the course of their four years.”
Posse is grateful for the generosity of the Walter and Elise Haas Fund, Leon Lowenstein Foundation and The Silver Giving Foundation to support the opening of Posse Bay Area.
“We are so excited to open this 10th location,” says Posse Board Chair Jeff Ubben. “Not only will we be creating opportunities for the young leaders in the Bay Area, but Posse is now well-positioned to meet its goals for 2020: to have 100 college and university partnerships, serve 5,000 students per year in Posse’s high school-through-college programming, and work with a network of 6,000 alumni.”
