Program Director - Veterans

Reporting to the Director of the Posse Veterans Program, the primary responsibilities of the program director are to oversee and manage the Posse Veterans program for up to six (6) university partners; manage a staff of up to four (4) Veterans Support Specialist (VSS) and one program coordinator (PC); and coordinate all program operations for the site, including by not limited to:

  • Maintaining and growing a national nominating network of community colleges, veteran service organizations, and military bases
  • Ensuring that prospective candidates remain engaged in Posse selection process throughout the year
  • Planning and facilitating small and large group workshops for Posse Veterans Scholars 
  • Monitoring student academic performance, retention and graduation rates, and providing regular reports about student outcomes
  • Working closely with the director to ensure that the program is achieving its goals and operating as effectively as possible
  • Supporting the director in maintaining university relations through campus visits and regular communication with designated university administrators, faculty, and staff
  • Working closely with the Career Program Specialist (CPS) to ensure alignment in Scholar training and support
  • Ensuring staff development and effectiveness through coaching, modeling, and constructive feedback  
  • Developing the program calendar and manage the Dynamic Assessment Process (DAP-Posse’s recruitment program), Pre-Collegiate Training, and Campus Programs

Preference will be given to candidates based in the New York city Metro Area (including New Jersey and Connecticut). This role is available as a remote position for exceptionally qualified candidates in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Texas and the Washington D.C. Metro Area (including Maryland and Virginia).

Qualities/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
  • Three to five years of previous supervisory experience required
  • U.S. veterans strongly encouraged to apply
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with veterans preferred
  • Familiarity with services for veterans preferred
  • Willing and able to travel extensively throughout year (valid U.S. driver’s license required)
  • Must possess or secure a REAL ID or passport
  • Excellent demonstrated skills in writing, communication, presentation, and time management
  • Ability to organize, manage, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to relate to and interact with active and transitioning service members and veterans from diverse backgrounds
  • Computer skills (MS Word and Excel, internet research, email, etc.).
  • Ability to perform basic data entry and analysis
  • Must be enthusiastic, possess a strong work ethic, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and serve as a positive role model for Posse Scholars and staff.
