TAMU Scholar Wins Entrepreneurship Scholarship

Summer 2016 | Houston

Niyonsaba Magnifique, or Mags as she is known to her Posse, was awarded a scholarship from Texas A&M University’s Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship through the Frank J. and Jean Raymond Foundation after presenting her plans to establish an educational nonprofit in Burundi and Rwanda.

“I believe education is the key to better life,” Mags says.

Seven years ago Mags moved from Tanzania to the United States with her family. To help with the transition into a new culture, she sought out leadership opportunities at school and participated in summer engineering programs. Today, as a Posse Scholar, she is majoring in business management as she begins her junior year.

Mags intends for her organization to aid underprivileged high school students, paying their tuition and providing mentors, tutors and other resources to help them excel in school. This summer she took classes on campus at TAMU while planning her first trip to Burundi and Rwanda to begin her research and establishing her nonprofit.
