Summer Programming Focuses on Career Preparation

Summer 2016 | Houston

The Posse Career Program provides Scholars with access to the resources and opportunities that will prepare them to secure competitive and career-enhancing internships, fellowships and research opportunities. During the summer, two Career Program components—internships and career coaching—took center stage.

Summer got underway at a kick-off event to help prepare Scholars for their internships. During an engaging Scholar-led panel, first-time interns asked older, more experienced Scholars about their previous internships. The older Scholars also offered advice about how to make connections between academic and professional goals.

In addition to internship preparation, Posse Houston held its first orientation for volunteer career coaches. Coaches are accomplished professionals who can provide advice and support to Scholars and alumni as they apply for internships, jobs, graduate and professional degree programs. Once matched, Scholars and coaches work together on a regular basis for at least two years.

The successful summer had Scholars interning for companies such as Crown Castle International, Kroger and PwC, and 19 volunteers began their career coaching relationships with Scholars.
