Posse Miami Scholars met in small groups for a networking session with prominent professionals from a variety of career sectors.

Scholars Hone Professional Skills at Winter Career Event

Spring 2015 | Miami

Posse Miami hosted its first Winter Career Event Day, an entire day of career development workshops and networking opportunities.

The human resources team of Posse Career Program partner Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. delivered a workshop about navigating the working world. Scholars learned best practices for submitting resumes, cover letters, and effective interview techniques. Scholars gained valuable insight into how the hiring process looks from the employer’s perspective.

“I am preparing to apply to various positions for the summer and the workshops were great, they really helped me prepare,” says Hamilton College Scholar Brenda Narvaes. “I learned a lot.”

Prominent professionals from Miami comprised a panel that encompassed a variety of career sectors such as civic engagement, business, STEM, law, education and the arts. Panelists included urologist Dr. Carlos Santa-Cruz, civil trial attorney and University of Miami adjunct law professor Alaina Fotiu-Wojtowicz, landscape designer Fernando Wong and his company CEO Timothy Johnson, nonprofit CEO Brett McNaught, and WPLG reporter Michael Seiden. A networking session followed where Scholars could speak with panelists in smaller groups.

The final workshop focused on preparing for graduate school and fellowship opportunities. Posse National Director of Graduate and Fellowship Programs Samson Lim facilitated a comprehensive workshop on graduate school and fellowship opportunities and preparation strategies.
