Posse Mentor Named Babson Professor of the Year

Summer 2015 | New York

A Posse mentor since 2013, Associate Professor Ganesan Shankar was chosen as Babson College’s 2015 Professor of the Year and honored at commencement. With a Ph.D. in management information systems and extensive research experience, he says he is most at home when working directly with students.

Ganesan, an educator for nearly 28 years, first learned about Posse while at Boston University, where some of his colleagues mentored Posse Atlanta Scholars. He was intrigued by the mentoring model and impressed by the confidence and academic prowess of Posse Scholars in his classes. When he came to Babson, he made an effort to become involved with the Posse program.

“I wanted to have productive interactions with kids who are extremely smart,” he says. “Posse is selecting the best and the brightest.”

Born in India, Ganesan says his family understood the necessity of education and always provided the means and encouragement for academic pursuits. His upbringing, experiences as an international student and values help him relate well to his mentees, many of whom come from similar families and backgrounds.

“Every kid that goes to college today should have a mentor and the fact that Posse has identified this and been doing this for decades is amazing,” says Ganesan.
