Posse D.C. Celebrates Graduates at 2017 Alumni Induction

Posse D.C. welcomed its 2017 college graduates into the Posse Alumni Network this past June at the offices of Mayer Brown LLP, a Career Program partner and comprehensive supporter. Fellow alumni, current Scholars, families and other members of the community celebrated the new alumni at the annual event.

Posse D.C. Director Tamara Wilds Lawson honored the graduates and highlighted their achievements with the help of Posse National Alumni Advisory Council representative Sarah Martinez Roth, a Colby College alumna who is currently pursuing her doctorate in tumor biology at Georgetown University.

“Our alumni are the best advertisement for the Posse program, not only because you completed your collegiate journey successfully but also because of what you will go on to accomplish,” Tamara said. “In our graduating class of Scholars, we have a Fulbright Fellow, four individuals going to graduate school, including to William and Mary Law School, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Columbia University. Many others are going on to start their careers at Fortune 500 companies like Accenture, Clark Construction, Bank of America and PwC.”

Featured speaker Kenia Lobo, who graduated from Bucknell University and is currently a medical student at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, shared advice from her Posse journey with the new alumni.

“Do not lose sight of how far you have come and you will end up where you want to be in time,” Kenia said. “Do not think that there is just one path to get where you want to be—taking a little detour might be one of the best experiences. And always remember the power of your Posse!”

The new college graduates join a network of more than 4,000 Posse alumni around the world who are dynamic leaders in the workforce and in their communities.
