D.C. Honors GEICO VP, Raises Close to $200K

Pepperdine Posse alumnus Demisse Selassie.

In October 2015, Posse D.C. hosted its eighth annual Power of 10 fundraiser at The Mead Center for American Theater, home of Arena Stage, in Washington, D.C. The event, which raised nearly $200,000, honored Rynthia Rost, the vice president of public affairs at GEICO, for her commitment to excellence in higher education and investment in community development.

“I am deeply honored to be here among so many wonderful and hardworking individuals who continue to make a positive impact in our community,” said Rynthia. “To stand before you and be recognized by Posse D.C. leaves an indelible mark on my career and my endeavors as an advocate for education, socioeconomic improvement and diversity.”

This annual event is held to recognize the strength of Posse’s dynamic Scholars and celebrate diversity, equity and leadership in higher education and the workforce. During the evening’s program, Posse alumnus Demisse Selassie, a graduate of Pepperdine University, spoke passionately about the program’s impact on his life.

“If you’re a student with a diverse background, you often yearn for support while trying to navigate the maze of college life. That is where Posse changed my life,” said Demisse, who is the Posse D.C. recruiting and talent lead at Deloitte. “My journey is just one of the many extraordinary stories of stakeholders coming together to make dreams a reality for Scholars at top colleges and universities across the country.”

Posse D.C. is thankful to the sponsors and supporters whose generosity opens doors of access to educational and professional opportunities for Posse Scholars.
