Community Celebrates First Cohort of Posse Miami Graduates

Winter 2015 | Miami

Posse Miami’s fourth annual Power of 10 fundraising event, hosted at the ocean-side home of Mark and Lisa Sanders, celebrated the first cohort of Posse Miami college graduates and honored bestselling author James Patterson. Posse welcomed leaders from Miami’s education, civic, corporate, and philanthropic communities, including Alberto Carvalho, the superintendent of Miami-Dade Public Schools.

In addition to its alumni from Hamilton College, Mount Holyoke College and University of Pennsylvania, Posse Miami supports Scholars on campus at those schools and at Davidson College, Franklin & Marshall College, Pomona College and Syracuse University. The growth and success of The Posse Foundation’s seventh chapter is reflective of the enthusiastic support of the City of Miami and its residents.

Mount Holyoke College Posse alumna Michelle Espinosa, who graduated in the spring of 2014 and now works for the United Way Miami-Dade captured the attention of the entire crowd as she spoke of Posse’s impact on her college experience.

“When you invest in The Posse Foundation you are directly investing in the real lives of students and their families,” said Michelle. “Posse helped me understand that although I might be able to accomplish all of my goals on my own, as a group and as a family we could conquer the world.”

Honoree James Patterson, who spoke about the impact of reading and writing on his life, cited the importance of investing in future leaders through organizations like The Posse Foundation.

“We are so grateful to have had so many Posse supporters join us for our Power of 10 Celebration,\" says Posse Miami Director Nadine Dalrymple. \"It was great to look around the room and see the faces of Posse Miami’s first cohort of alumni. We know that these young people will continue to do incredible things, and we are excited to have them back in the Miami community.”

Posse Miami thanks its generous event sponsors, advisory board members, Power of 10 captains, and supporters for making the evening such a success.
