Posse has launched its eighth program site in New Orleans, Louisiana. The city’s 128 public schools support 65,000 students who represent the rich cultural mix of The Big Easy.

At this year’s Posse gala, donors made an extraordinary declaration of support, contributing over $500,000 to help fund the launch of Posse New Orleans. That evening Tulane University President Scott Cowen made an emphatic presentation of his institution’s pledge to recruit talented students from the surrounding community to become Posse Scholars at Tulane.

Bard College alumnus and Posse supporter George Hamel III was also present to announce Bard’s commitment to partner with Posse New Orleans and become Posse’s 15th multi-city partner.

“We couldn’t be more excited about opening a Posse chapter in New Orleans,” says Posse’s national board chair, Jeff Ubben. “It’s an incredible city filled with young people who deserve this opportunity. With Tulane and Bard on board to take the first Posses, it will be a home run.”

With student recruitment already underway, the first cohorts of Posse New Orleans Scholars will be selected this fall.
