Diversity + STEM = X

Solving the Equation for Higher Education and the Workforce

This day-long conference will bring together college and university presidents, corporate leaders, foundation representatives and community leaders to discuss solutions for increasing the number and diversity of STEM graduates and professionals.

According to recent analysis:

  1. Over the next decade, STEM jobs are expected to grow by 13%, outpacing other sectors. Most of this growth will come in computing.1
  2. Students of color represent 36% of the college-age population, but just 22% of those pursuing degrees in Computing and 11% of those pursuing Engineering degrees.2
  3. In 2011, only 6% of STEM workers were Black and 7% were Hispanic.3
  4. Nearly 1 in 5 female science and engineering graduates are out of the labor force, compared with less than 1 in 10 male science and engineering graduates.4
  5. Although women receive 36% of STEM Ph.Ds., they make up 18% of full professors in science and engineering.5
  6. Only 16% of high school students are deemed math-proficient and interested in working in a STEM field.6
  7. Nearly half of STEM bachelor’s degree recipients switch to non-STEM fields when they enter graduate school or the workforce.7

Join us as we consider strategies to change these statistics with the next generation of STEM leaders.
